With my topic in specific, the manpower to consider behind the scenes in wind power are the engineers. These engineers are the foundation in the design of these turbines used on wind farms. These engineers need to also work hand in hand with farmers and constructors. Farmers need to communicate to the engineering community of the complications found within the use of the turbine. The combination of ideas shared between these communities will help further influence the positive climb of better technology and growing popularity of wind energy use. In the article, Wind Energy Engineering, the authors share “Wind energy engineers focus on hardware design turbines, rotor blades, electrical systems, and energy production systems. They analyze the aerodynamic properties of new designs, run tests, and document test results. Some oversee the manufacturing and testing of components. They also estimate budget and scheduling requirements for manufacturing processes” (Environmental Science).
Manpower also involved in the evolution of the wind turbine include men such as, Charles Brush, Poul la Cour, Joe Jacobs, Marcellus Jacobs and Georges Jean Marie Darrieus (Shahan). These men were responsible for the historical development of the turbine and contributed to its significance today. Through the work of these men, human effort in supplying energy to their farms became easier. In technological advances, other sources of energy such as natural gas, coal and oil have proven to be harmful to ecology and agriculture (Righter). The researchers aiding in the increase of wind power are also aiding in the preservation of healthy agriculture. The environment plays a huge role in the quality of the product grown by farmers, therefore, the change to wind energy would hugely and futuristically increase the quality of agriculture.
The use of wind energy is continually growing in efficiency and in popularity. From the book Windfall: Wind Energy in America Today, Robert W. Righter shares “Wind energy is the fastest-growing form of renewable energy in the world” (Righter). Without all the current and historic researchers and the consistent interest in wind energy, its significance would not exist today. There are many hands in which have gone into the creation of the modern turbine, and all hands play a huge role in its importance in agriculture today.
